Gelatin filters together with the MD8 air samplers (gelatin filter method) are used to collect airborne germs and viruses. Gelatin filter disposable units are individually sterile packed, ready-to-connect units consisting of gelatin filter and holder. Gelatin membrane filters are also available as filter discs (planar filters) for use with the 17655 (80 mm) filter holder. Smaller filter diameters are also available. 'Absolute' retention rate (99.9995% for Bac. sub. niger spores, 99.94% for T3 Coli phages) Filters protect collected microorganisms from drying out due to their residual moisture content Gelatin filters are completely soluble in water, therefore samples can be grown in/on various nutrient media and can be used at high and low microbial concentrations - samples are unaffected by inhibitors Filter solubility is a prerequisite for quantitative virus collection
