The tubes, made of medical-grade plastics, are provided with a permanent, high-contrast 2D barcode. These tubes, in turn, are placed in a rack with a hinged lid, and the rack is marked on three sides with a one-dimensional barcode, a 2D barcode, and a visually readable label. This system is intended for use in combination with Thermo Scientific barcode readers, arrayers and capping systems. The screw-cap tubes with 2D barcodes meet a variety of requirements for manual and automated long-term storage. Since the racks are also barcoded, the racks can be easily tracked.
