Since both size and number of drops have a decisive influence on the color complex to be formed, the dosage must be extremely accurate. The shelf life of liquid reagents is limited by temporary contact with atmospheric oxygen when the bottles are opened and by unsuitable storage conditions (exposure to sunlight, higher temperatures).
