Non-conductive samples, such as plastic, porcelain, glass, etc., are often electrostatically charged. The resulting electromagnetic field between the sample and the balance can falsify the weighing results down to the gram range. Therefore, for weighing in the milligram range or finer, neutralization of the electrostatic charge with the KERN AC corona discharge ionizer is recommended.
