Particularly when dividing suspensions with coarse-grained portions, the disturbing influence of segregation due to sedimentation of larger or heavier particles is reliably avoided by dividing with the rotary cone sample divider. Method of operation Outdated division principles such as "quartering" or "coning" no longer meet the high requirements of modern analytical methods. Today's best possible sample division is based on the combination of three division methods in one instrument: The sample is fed through a funnel to a division cone whose shape corresponds to quartering and coning.
