Drawer or rack?
When using racks with drawers, only the drawer in which the required boxes are located is pulled out. All other boxes remain in the cold interior of the ultra-low temperature freezer. Eppendorf racks are optimized for smooth operation at -80°C and for ergonomic handling.
When using racks, most storage boxes must be pulled out of the cold inner area of the ultra freezer when accessing samples.
Racks for ultra freezers can be equipped with safety bars to secure the freezer boxes when pulling out the rack tower.

Stainless steel or aluminum?
Two types of rack material are available as standard.

Stainless steel:
Stable/robust for durability and higher capacity
For freezer boxes up to 136 mm × 136 mm for greater flexibility in box selection
Enhanced design for optimized cooling conditions and improved sample security

Aluminum:
For freezer boxes up to 133 mm × 133 mm
Non-corrosive anodized aluminum for long-term use


Rack depth
Two systems are used in laboratories: the four-box deep standard racks and five-box deep racks. Why does this matter? In an emergency, you want to save your valuable samples. The easiest way to do this is to remove all the racks (with the samples/boxes in them) and store those racks in a spare ultra-deep freezer. To be compatible with common ultra-low temperature freezer manufacturers, Eppendorf ultra-low temperature freezers are designed for four-box deep racks.


Three or five compartments?
Compared to the ultra-low temperature freezer with five compartments (e.g., CryoCube F570 series), the compartments of the ultra-low temperature freezer with three compartments/bottoms (e.g., Innova U535) are higher. The racks of a five-compartment ultra-low freezer will fit a three-compartment unit, but not vice versa.
To get the maximum capacity out of your ultra-low freezer, the CryoCube F740 series (three compartments) can be equipped with MAX racks for three compartments. These racks will only fit the three compartment CryoCube F740 series units.
