Cellulose nitrate is the original material for membrane filters, and still offers the widest range of pore sizes ( 8.0 µm - 0.45 µm). The coarser pore sizes (8 µm, 5 µm, 3 µm) are used for cell separation. The high non-specific adsorption of the Cellulose Nitrate membrane is very advantageous for diagnostic rapid tests.
